    What to expect in SUP Yoga classes

    Going with the flow

    Humans are naturally pulled to water for its healing and transformational properties. Many believe that the water element is crucial to balance the body and to find physical harmony.

    On our days off, especially during the summer, we go to bodies of water to find clarity and to calm the mind. Even when we are not near a beach or a lake, we take long showers or warm baths to relax and utilize its healing properties.

       

      Our yoga practice offers a similar refuge, but when we add the layer of practicing yoga on a calm body of water on a beautiful day we take our practice to a whole new level.

        SUP Yoga (or Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga) classes reveal the healing power of being on the water, listening to the sound of it flowing beneath us with views of the sky above us and nature around us.

    When practicing yoga on a paddleboard, we are asked to slow down, listen, mindfully transition and then to hold poses while utilizing our breath to keep us focused. SUP Yoga can bring a whole new perspective to our practice, mind, body & spirit.

          

      Yoga and Fitness Core classes are taught on the water on floating boards. Our paddle can help us find our midpoint & hold our center. Our mat is the Stand Up Paddleboard and the world is our studio. All of the elements have been invited: Sun, Wind, Water and Earth. We learn while adapting to the motion of the board. We cultivate awareness with the increased challenge to our balance through the instability created by minor energy and weight shifts that require us to ground and build our core stability while afloat. 


       Change is the only constant in life. On the water we learn to flow, stay present to what is and to live freely within each moment.

    Sara has always had a love for the water. In middle school she was on the swim team and she was a lifeguard and taught swimming lessons throughout high school, and into college in the summers. She became an avid rock climber, hiker and explorer of all that the mountains of NC had to offer in in her years living in the high country. Parts of her summers have always been spent on the lakes & beaches of North Carolina where she learned to surf in the Outer Banks and wake board at her parents lake house. After graduating she moved to Virginia Beach and loved to play around on longboards in the waves at Sandbridge beach or wake surf through the canals that led out to the ocean in her neighborhood. She later received her Wilderness First Responder certification (WFR) and taught a Backpacking and Orienteering Course and the Yoga Course offerings at ASU and she and her 4 kids lived in the mountains exploring the land and rivers for seven years. When she moved to northern Michigan she was introduced to stand up paddle boarding and took a paddling safety/technique class at The River when it was at Clinch Park, and she was hooked. She taught  Yoga on the beach & SUP yoga for a few summers. 

      

      Sara has since invested in her own paddle board collection and goes on paddleboarding adventures on the lakes & rivers that surround Traverse City, Michigan and beyond. 


    The physical studio space that she taught in for the past 9 years closed down last year due to the limitations placed on it due to the pandemic. 



     Sara decided to invest in the things she adores to create safe, outdoor classes for her students. 


    Stand up paddle boarding adventures, Outdoor yoga in Hull Park on Boardman lake, SUP YOGA, offering a central platform anchor system OR Individual anchors.

    What to expect in SUP Yoga classes

    • Arrive 15 min.early to make sure you are ready when we leave the shore.
    • Wear clothes you would be comfortable practicing yoga in that can get wet.
    • Avoid cotton because you may get wet and it does not dry fast and you could get chilly.
    • Ensure that all of the items you choose to bring on board your SUP will remain attached to your board.
    • We will first go over stand up paddle board safety & paddling techniques.
    • We will then practice paddling around and then head towards the anchor platform.
    • If you are not comfortable standing up you can modify by staying on your knees or sitting.
    • We do cancel for inclement weather
    • CPR Certified

    Choose Your own SUP Adventure

    Sip & SUP

    Pick your location. An inland lake, a river or a bay. Bring your own drinks/snacks or we can provide options for you to choose from. Bring up to 8 people and we have all the equipment. We choose a predetermined place to paddle to and from. It can also be round trip. You can make it more relaxing, adding a stop for some Yoga and an easy paddle or it can be a more challenging paddle to get your blood pumping, burning off the calories from your festivities the night before. 

    Choose your distance, body of water and personalize your adventure for your group. 

    Sunshine & Wine

    We have some favorite spots to offer, where you can decide where you want to stop or paddle to. Local Wineries, restaurants, Breweries, parks. We have a trailer that will be waiting for you at your destination or we can make it round trip for an extra challenge. There is always an option to add a SUP Yoga session before. The possibilities are so many.

    Private Group Classes

    Indoor or Outside. Customize and choose type of class, length and number of people. I create classes for every body and I give many options for more challenging and more restful variations of postures and sequences in more mixed level group classes.  I can come to your or I have a number of outdoor places I can recommend.  

    Individual Private Lesson

    I can come to you and I also have an office space. This session is catered to exactly whatever you may need. Building strength, awareness, functional mobility, flexibility to learning the basics. I will consult with you over the phone and then in person to personalize each experience.

    I am a advocate of following our truth, a lover of learning & forever a student. 


    I believe that we were each put on this earth for a reason. Our yoga practice is a vehicle to connect with our source & peel away any layers obscuring our innate radiance.

    My teaching style is a fusion of all that I have been taught, from every teacher, past & present.... blended & served with purposeful intention, a sense of humor & heartfelt connection.

    I provide a safe, nurturing space that encourages each student to set down any judgments and perceived limitations, so that they can find courage in their vulnerability & trust in their unique capabilities while I guide them to experience this sacred practice with a whole new level of confidence, compassion, playfulness and freedom through traditional & SUP yoga and fitness.
